Not Surprised

As the year 2020 drew to a close there began to arise three main outlooks for the upcoming year. Most people were hopeful and ready for a new year. They claimed two of these outlooks for 2021. One group believes the pandemic will end soon after the turn of the year and the restrictions of 2020 will be left behind. The second group believes that 2021 will be a better year as the pandemic lessens and the restrictions become less strenuous. They believe that we will become adjusted to the restrictions imposed on the world. These two groups are looking forward to a better year, a normal year. But some people, the third group, believe nothing will change. For whatever reason they believe that 2021 will mirror 2020 with shortages and restrictions.

None of us really know what tomorrow will bring. We cannot predict the future anymore that we can predict the weather. The new year may look bleak but no matter what happens with the pandemic, shortages, and restrictions there is always hope. Jesus tells us that we will always have trouble [Matthew 6:34]. Prophecies in the Bible point to a great time when there will be wars and a pandemic like the one, we are experiencing. But faith founded in the Lord Jesus the Christ is faith of assured hope [John 16:33].

We are to live our lives by faith in Jesus, who He is [Hebrews 11:6], what He does [1 John 2:2] and what He says [Romans 10:16-17]. We are not to place our trust in our senses, other people, nor our situations, but we are to trust Jesus and His promises [2 Corinthians 5:7]. We are to be aware of our trials and wise in how we handle them. But our faith in Jesus provides an opportunity to be calm and joyous throughout the trail knowing that Jesus knows about our trial and is fulfilling the promises which He has made [James 1:2-3].

A spirit of calm joy perfects us in peace [Luke 7:50] and courage [2 Corinthians 5:8] in which we are prepared for any opportunity [James 1:4] Jesus sends our way.

So, as we enter into the unknown of 2021 let us boldly enter with calm assurance that no matter what life brings Jesus knows about it and is ready and prepared. Therefore, by abiding in Jesus we also are ready and prepared for life in 2021.

Nothing catches Jesus off guard.

“Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose,’” Isaiah 46:8-10
