Joy in Faith

Joy in Faith

The past few weeks we have peered into a believer’s life of faith. Living in belief and trust in Yahweh and His Word is living like He is telling the truth [Proverbs 3:5-6]. As a believer humbly abides in Jesus he is filled with the Spirit of Jesus [John 15:4] and changed into Christlike character [Romans 8:29]. We are not only saved through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection [Ephesians 2:4-5], but we are also sanctified through faith in the indwelling Holy Spirit [Romans 15:16]. Today let us look at three benefits of a person’s faith that bring joy to a believer’s life.

First, we see that through faith we are never alone. Since a believer is indwelt by the Spirit of Jesus there is never a moment of being alone. Jesus fulfils His promise to Spiritually abide in and with each believer [John 15:4]. Others will desert us but not Jesus. What each believer needs to know is that even when our flesh or Satan plants the lie that Jesus does not care and has left us, then it is our faith in Jesus and what He says that is true [John 12;44]. We live life with assurance that His Spirit is always with us.

“Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,’” Hebrews 13:5

Second, a believer’s faith allows them to live without the stress which plagues society [John 14:1]. Everywhere we turn people are responding to the trials of life in an anxious state of stress. They are constantly in need of counsel and medication to navigate life. We all face trials and most appear unexpectantly [John 16:22]. It is how we handle our trails and our bad days that reveals a life of faith. Jesus did not save us to lead a life filled with depressing stress. If Jesus is who He says He is then why should a believer who is always abiding in Jesus ever stress. Does scripture not say, ‘Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.’ [1 John 4:4]? Faith in Jesus and His Spirit provides an attitude of calmness for each believer [Philippians 4:7]. We must believe and live as though this was true. We must take our trials and place them at the feet of Jesus and leave them there. They become His and He will take care of them.

“casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Not only will a life of faith allow a believer to never be alone, and to live a stress-free life, but a life of faith will allow a believer to live in a state of rest [Hebrews 4:2-3]. There is refreshing for their soul as they take Jesus at His Word [Acts 3:19]. There is a restoring of the soul as their mind is transformed through His Word and His Spirit [Romans 12:1-2].

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

A life of faith is a joyous one filled with calm rest in our ever-present Savior, Jesus the Christ. It is an abiding life of calm submissiveness to His Word and Spirit. Calmly rest in Jesus and be blessed every day.

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
